What God Honors

This week as we worship together, Pastor Casey Dwyer will be sharing from Daniel 6. The example of the octogenarian, Daniel encourages us to remain faithful, seeking a life of God's honor as we live away from our eternal home.

General Announcements

We Can Stand Sermon Series: Sometimes the world feels like it’s hurling through space without rhyme or reason.  Daniel reminds us that God is at work and the chaos we see in the nations is really an order of things that will end in the eternal Kingdom of God being established.
Daniel, as a man gives us a great example of how we can stand firm in the midst of the chaos, even when we are separated from the home where we belong.  Through integrity, faithful practices, deep faith and a godly community of friends, Daniel presented a consistent, powerful witness of God in a foreign land.

Hour in the Word! Join Pastor Casey and our pastoral intern, Sam George, for Hour in the Word (9am class in the Great room). This year our theme is “Living as Exiles: serving Christ in a non-Christian World,” and we begin with a six-week series covering the stories of Ruth, Jonah and Esther. These important books give us stories of God’s faithfulness in foreign lands and invite us to see ourselves as part of his wider story to bring hope to “every tribe, tongue, and nation.” Join us at 9am!

New 9:00 a.m. Class: In addition to our Hour in the Word class we are offering a class that will be taught by Pastor Jim and Kris. This class will be based on Timothy Keller’s book “The Meaning of Marriage”. The class is for married people, or those considering marriage and you don't have to attend as a couple. If you plan to attend we need you to sign up so we know how many books to order. There is a sign-up sheet at the Information Desk in the foyer. This class will begin on Sunday March 5 at 9:00 a.m. and will continue through the month of May.

Thursday Women’s Bible Study: Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Great Room. Our study is on 1 & 2 Peter and we heartily welcome any newcomers to join us! If you have questions feel free to contact Carol Marshall, carolsings3@comcast.net or 847-274-9900.

Ash Wednesday service—Lent begins on Wednesday February 22. Our 7:00 pm service includes songs and scripture reflecting our mortality, the imposition of ashes and a message by our intern, Sam George.

Ministry Team Leader Gathering,- Saturday, February 25, 10am-12 noon. This is a morning of encouragement, prayer and discussion about doing ministry together at VCL. Our goal is to help your team envision their part in accomplishing God's mission for us as a church. We want to hear from each team about how God is using them and how we can support each other. Please RSVP on the Friendship Register, or email the church office.

VCL Blood Drive—Our next Red Cross blood drive is Monday, February 27. Please give if you are able. Appointments are scheduled every 15 minutes from 1:00—6:00p.m. To get the time you want, contact Ed Manzo or sign up on the Red Cross blood donor website.

Village Voices: The time has come to gather again! On March 5 (from 5:00-6:30pm), we'll begin rehearsing for VCL's Tenebrae and Easter services. If you are interested in participating this season, please sign-up in the foyer. Music will be available for pick-up next Sunday, 2/26. If you have any questions, please find Kacie (Swierk) after the service, or email her at kswierk@evcl.org

Women’s Connection: Ladies, mark your calendars, we have two dates to remember. You are invited to our next Saturday Gathering, Leaving our Legacy: Making Every Blessing Count. Our guest speaker, Pamela Steiner will be challenging us to build relationships by creating defining moments blessing others along the way. Who has inspired you that you want to imitate something from their life or what kind of legacy do you want to leave in your neighborhood or at work? Be sure to be with us on March 11th 9:00-11:00am. Also, add to your calendar our Tea Party, May 13th. For more information contact Karen Kissinger or Carol Marshall.

You can still join a growth group! While we just had our growth group launch (an easy opportunity to join a growth group), if you are still interested in joining a group, you can reach out to Pastor Casey any time of the year. Growth groups are a vital part of church life at VCL!
