Village Church of Lincolnshire

Guide for Home Worship: 9/4/22

Hope’s Last Words

This Sunday, we are finishing up our “Summer of Hope” series. From 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24, Pastor Jim Renke will share a way to live in and live toward the presence of Christ in our lives. We can include practices, depend on the Spirit, and desire transformation, all in anticipation of the new creation.

General Announcements

New Hour in the Word Class: How to Study the Bible – If you’ve ever wondered why some people love Bible study while others can’t get connected, one big reason is that they’ve never been taught the basics of Bible study. Once we come to terms with what the Bible is (God’s Word in human language and history) and how we are to read it, the Bible comes alive. Join us at 9am in the Great room.

New Curriculum in Catechism Connection: The Village Church Catechism.  After a year of preparation, Pastor Casey and the Catechism Connection team have begun their new curriculum entitled The Village Church Catechism. This curriculum is specifically focused on teaching the basics of the Christian faith to the children of VCL. Each family will receive a copy and are encouraged to follow along at home.

Need Leaders in Children’s Ministry – We’ve found ourselves at a low ebb in terms of children’s volunteers and leaders in various ministries. Pastor Casey is looking in particular for someone to teach Catechism connection every other week during the 9 o’clock hour. If you are interested in helping or just want to learn more, reach out to Pastor Casey either on Sunday or at cdwyer@evcl.org.

All Women of VCL on Saturday September 10, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Women’s Connections will be hosting a Brunch to kickoff our ministry year. There will be food and fellowship and a time to catch the vision for our upcoming events. If you have any questions feel free to contact Carol Marshall 847-274-9900, carolsings3@comcast.net .

Thursday Morning Bible Study: 9:30 – 11 a.m. Teachers: Carol Marshall, Judy DeBaets. This year we will be studying 1 & 2 Peter. The relevance of these books to today’s social and religious climate makes them a particularly interesting study. We’ll be using the study guide 1-2 Peter and Jude by Jonathan K. Dodson. This class does have homework but you will benefit from the weekly sessions even if you have not been able to prepare ahead. In addition to our study we have a monthly Concert of Prayer led by Jan Carlson. Part of our class time is dedicated to this on the third Thursday of the month from 10:20-11:00. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us! Questions? Contact Carol Marshall, carolsings3@comcast.net or 847-274-9900.

Growth Group Launch! Growth groups are small groups of VCL people who gather together to learn from God’s Word and encourage, support, exhort, and comfort one another. They are a vital aspect of being part of our church. Every fall we have a special time for you to sign up for (or change) growth groups. In the foyer for two more weeks (September 4th, September 11th) there will be a list of what groups are available, where and when they meet, along with a signup sheet. This is the main opportunity of the year to get involved in growth groups. If you have any questions, please reach out to Pastor Casey.

International Taste of Village Church — We have so many people at VCL with backgrounds in other countries that it is time we enjoy some of the food from our various homelands! Saturday evening, September 17 at 5 p.m., we will celebrate the international flavor of our church with a supper together. Please bring a dish from your homeland (other than USA). Appetizers and desserts should serve 10-12 and entrees should serve 8. Sign up at the Information Desk with your name, type of dish and country of origin to help us plan.

The Nominating Committee invites suggestions from the congregation for positions on the Finance Committee and for Elders. The Financial Secretary and Treasurer are one year terms. Our By-Laws indicate that the committee solicit names for all elected positions. The Elder positions are three year terms. Candidates for all elected positions must be active members of Village Church of Lincolnshire. Contact Nels Flatebo, (nels@theleadersforum.net, 847.414.9730) Chair of the Nominating Committee with your suggestions.

Landscape Plan Presentation –September 18th  – Kirsten Sittler will be sharing three plans for the future of the landscape of VCL at 12:15 on September 18th. This is YOUR chance to help us as we see ways to enhance our presence in the neighborhood and select the path to get there. Don’t miss it!

Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you (and we have openings on our schedule.) Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake (possibly celebrating a special birthday?) homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To schedule a Sunday and find out more info, please email karen.flatebo@sbcglobal.net.

Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to prayer@evcl.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.

If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at office@evcl.org to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
