An Audience Before the Throne of God

This is an exciting weekend at VCL! Our pastoral candidate, Jim Renke, along with his wife, Kris, is here to meet the congregation and get to know our church. Jim will be preaching a sermon titled “Prayer, from Burden to Blessing” from Luke 11:5-13. Please see our bulletin (digital or otherwise) for opportunities to meet Jim and Kris, as well as info on next week’s congregational meeting (8/15).

General Announcements

Opportunities this week: If you were not able to meet the Renkes during the weekend of August 7-8 we will host a virtual meet & greet on Zoom on Wednesday, August 11 from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. Also, there will be an additional cottage meeting at the Marshalls’ home in Barrington on Saturday, August 14.at 9:30 AM. Please sign up at office@evcl.org if you plan to attend that meeting and we will send you the Marshall’s address.

Congregational Meeting—Immediately after our worship service on August 15, we will hold a congregational meeting to vote on whether to call Jim Renke to serve as VCL’s next Senior Pastor. Non-members are encouraged to attend, but only members may vote. The meeting will be live-streamed and absentee voting will be allowed. Stay tuned for more details about the meeting from the elders and the search committee.

Adopt A Youth Group! Want a chance to get to know the younger generation at VCL? Starting this August, the youth group will be starting a new program called adopt a youth group, where you can host a youth group meeting on a Wednesday night at your home. You won’t need to provide anything besides some space and your engagement with the students. Want to know more? Put “Adopt a Youth Group” in the friendship register and we’ll reach out!

Women of VCL – Please save the date for a Kickoff event for Women’s Connections on Saturday, September 11 from 9:30 to 11:30. We’ll be having brunch and fellowship as well as sharing new ministry ideas for all women of the church.

Nothing But the Blood… The Red Cross has approached our church about the possibility of hosting a blood drive for the community. The elders think this is a wonderful way to move toward becoming “the most beautiful home in our neighborhood,” but we need to gauge your interest before we can set a date. If you’d be interested in donating blood and/or volunteering to help out, please contact the church office. The drive will take place on a weekday, so please take that into consideration before signing up.

Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to prayer@evcl.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.

If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at office@evcl.org to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
