Guide for Home Worship: 5/8/22
Trust the True Guide
Fear can make us do crazy things, but God invites us to trust him no matter how scary things look. Today we take a break from John to look at the story of the Israelites in 1st Samuel 8, when their fear led them to try to control God rather than love and trust him. Join us as we seek a better way, a way guided by God’s Spirit, a way that recognizes that God’s love and guidance is the real answer to our fear.
New Sermon Series: This Spring, we will walk through the book of John. In it we’ll see that Jesus came to begin his new creation in us. As we’re encouraged to believe in him, we will discover the uniqueness and power of new life in him. Join us on Sunday mornings, for the faith to “Believe and Discover.”
Study of the Pentateuch – Join Pastor Casey in the Great room at 9am for a time of intentional study of the first five books of the Bible. This will be a trial run of a new kind of class at VCL, where we gather first to discuss in small groups and end our time with a whole-group discussion. If you’ve ever wanted to take your Bible study to a new level, this is a great opportunity for you to go deeper than ever before in God’s Word. We’re using T. Desmond Alexander’s book From Paradise to Promise Land as our guide, and we’ll try to read much of the Pentateuch during our time together.
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (5/10) at 7:00 PM, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to email@example.com
Women’s Connection – The Saturday Gathering: Ladies, we will be gathering May 14th at 9 am in the Great Room to celebrate women’s connections and gathering! We will have a small devotional where we offer gratitude for everything we have been learning, and we will have a time of celebrating what is to come during the summer months. This will be the last Saturday Gathering until the fall, but we will still be connecting as women of VCL. So come and join us as we celebrate together!
Semi Annual Congregational Meeting and Meal – On Sunday May 22 we will be meeting together for our Semi Annual Congregation Meeting at 6:00 p.m. Prior to the meeting there will be a light supper at 5:00 p.m. If you would like to help provide food for the meal please reach out to Faith and the Hospitality team, they will coordinate what blessings they need you to bring.
The Nominating Committee welcomes your input as to potential nominees for the Nominating Committee. According to the By-Laws, the Nominating Committee proposes candidates for any openings on the Elder Board and Finance Committee. Your suggestions may be sent to Dave Papritz, Chair, firstname.lastname@example.org, or to Pastor Jim, email@example.com
Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you (and we have openings on our schedule.) Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake (possibly celebrating a special birthday?) homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To schedule a Sunday and find out more info, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to email@example.com. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
