Guide for Home Worship: 2/27/22
Worshiping God by Believing His Promises
The wilderness can wear out our faith. It can also shrink our faith by diminishing God. This morning we are going to look at Israel’s experience in Numbers 13 & 14. They decided not to enter the promised land for a variety of reasons. Through this, we’ll discover who to grow in our trust of Christ, so we will faithfully follow him with great hope.
We worship at 10:30am. We’d love to see you in person but if you just can’t make it to be with us, we hope you’ll join us online.
New Sermon Series begins Sunday, March 6: This Spring, we will walk through the book of John. In it we’ll see that Jesus came to begin his new creation in us. As we’re encouraged to believe in him, we will discover the uniqueness and power of new life in him. Join us on Sunday mornings, for the faith to “Believe and Discover.”
Study of the Pentateuch begins March 6th – Join Pastor Casey in the Great room at 9am for a time of intentional study of the first five books of the Bible. This will be a trial run of a new kind of class at VCL, where we gather first to discuss in small groups and end our time with a whole-group discussion. If you’ve ever wanted to take your Bible study to a new level, this is a great opportunity for you to go deeper than ever before in God’s Word. We’re using T. Desmond Alexander’s book From Paradise to Promise Land as our guide, and we’ll try to read much of the Pentateuch during our time together.
Series on Worship During Hour in the Word – Join Don Hedges at 9am in the Great room as he leads a new series entitled Shaping Light: Christians Gathered in Worship. This series, which goes through February, is a great opportunity to learn more about why we worship, what Christians believe happens in worship, and much more.
The Abundant Life class – Pastor Jim will lead the class in a study of God’s Mission in the world.
Ministry Team Leader Gathering,- Saturday, February 26th, 10am-1pm. This is a morning of encouragement, prayer and discussion about doing ministry together at VCL. Our goal is to help your team envision their part in accomplishing God’s mission for us as a church. We want to hear from each team about how God is using them and how we can support each other. Our meeting will end with lunch together. Please RSVP on the Friendship Pad, or email the church office.
Hearts for Kids begins February 27th —We’re excited to restart the longstanding tradition of Hearts for Kids, a program designed to motivate prayer for the children of VCL and beyond. Every year, at the beginning of Lent, we hang hearts with pictures of all VCL children from infancy to 18, and people in the congregation get the chance to pray for them throughout the Lenten season. This year, we’re starting the program on February 27th. In addition to the children of VCL, this year we’ll have several blank hearts with different ages on them. This is a special opportunity for you to pray that God would give us the privilege of sharing Jesus with more children and families.
Red Cross Blood Drive (Monday, Feb. 28 from 1:00 to 6:00 pm in the Great Room): all 52 time slots have been reserved. We are looking for a few volunteers for set up and for management from noon to 6 pm or portions thereof. To volunteer, please let Ed Manzo know. Ed will bring pizza at noon. Also, if you want to donate blood, please let Ed know so he can petition the Red Cross to open up more time slots.
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (3/1) at 7:00 PM, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ash Wednesday & Lent: On Wednesday, March 2nd at 7pm, we will share in an Ash Wednesday service. This service will focus on our need for what Christ has done on the cross. This leads to Lent, which is a time to spiritually prepare us for the renewal that Easter can bring into our lives. For those who desire to participate, we will have ashes to share.
Women’s Connections: The Saturday Gathering: Please put Saturday March 12 on your calendar as The Saturday Gathering meets for a very special event. Pastor Jim Renke will be presenting the topic of Spiritual Gifts…prepare yourself to be challenged with a different perspective on what the “lists” in 1 Corinthians, Romans, etc. entail. Perhaps you’ve taken a Gift Inventory or studied the relevant texts before, but Pastor Jim will open the Word so we can be revitalized as we see how God is at work in His Body, the Church. You won’t want to miss this! We meet from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. All are encouraged to come especially if you haven’t joined us before. Sign-ups are encouraged so we can prepare materials. See the table in the foyer or email Faith Beans email@example.com .
Baptism & Membership: If God is making VCL your church home, we encourage you to pray about church membership and baptism (if you haven’t been baptized). There will be a membership class on Saturday, March 26th from 10am-12pm. There will be a baptism meeting after church, Sunday, March 27th. Please sign up for these on the Friendship pad.
Good Friday and Easter Choir – Please consider being a part of our VCL choir, the “Village Voices”, as we prepare for our Good Friday and Easter worship services this spring. Choir rehearsals will again be held Sunday afternoons from 5 to 6:30pm in the sanctuary, beginning March 13th. Call or email Jane Niederbrach, 847.367.4680 / firstname.lastname@example.org for more information, or to RSVP.
VCL Women’s Connections: Thursday Morning Women’s Bible Study—All women of VCL are invited to attend the new session. Our study will be on women of the Bible. It will be a deep dive into how God has been at work for His kingdom purposes through women in the pages of scripture and will bring the principles of faith and action into our daily lives. The book we’ll use is Believers: Lessons from Women of Powerful Faith by Gien Karssen.
Please consider trying out this opportunity to dig into the word of God with a very enthusiastic group of women. All are welcome! If you have questions contact Carol Marshall, 847-274-9900 or email@example.com
Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you. Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake, homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To find out more and/or choose a date that works for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to email@example.com. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
