Guide for Home Worship: 11/8/20
An Audience With the King of Kings
At the end of a tumultuous week in America, we gather together to remind ourselves that our ultimate citizenship is in Heaven. Our heavenly King sits upon His throne, ordering the affairs of this world according to His own perfect wisdom, goodness, and righteousness. Pastor Kenny will be preaching a sermon from 1 Tim 2:1-7 about how God calls us to pray for our leaders so that we might better participate with Him in His mission to the world.
Sunday of Prayer: This Sunday during our Sunday School hour, we will be gathering from 9:30-10:15 for prayer in the Great Room. During this time both in our nation and our world, God’s people show their hope and trust in God by going boldly to him together in prayer. Because of this, Pastor Casey will lead a short time of instruction on how to pray, and we will spend some time going to the Lord together. If you can’t join us in person, you will be able to tune in on Zoom.
Operation: Bless Margaret – Let’s bless Margaret Ward by surprising her with a walk-up to her front door after church around Noon on Sunday, November 8! Come with balloons, signs, etc. and we’ll sing a few songs too. Address is 1209 Courier Ct, Deerfield. (Park on Wayne. Limited parking on Courier.) We’ll mask and socially distance on her driveway/lawn. If you’re coming, please RSVP Barb Lindberg (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Monday night (11/9) at 7:30 PM, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to email@example.com.
Memorial Service: We will have a Memorial Service for Connie Compton on Saturday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. The service will be streamed online for those who prefer to attend virtually. For those who come in person, we’ll be following our typical Sunday-morning COVID precautions, with a few exceptions. A group of about 20 family members will be sitting together in the front of the sanctuary. Also, there will be some singing in the service (with masks on). This does not mean we’re changing our Sunday-morning precautions—only that we’ve made a few accommodations based on the expressed wishes of Connie’s family.
A Pearl of Great Price—Parables of the Kingdom Sunday School Class Starts 11/15 – Join Pastor Casey for four Sunday mornings (11/15, 11/22, 12/13, and 12/22 from 9:30-10:15) as he leads a deep dive into some of Jesus most well-known (and often misunderstood) parables from the gospels. We’ll look at how Jesus took the stuff of everyday life and drew important, timeless, and profound lessons for both his first-century listeners and us. If you can’t make it in-person, you’ll be able to watch it live on YouTube as well.
Operation Christmas Child: YOU can make a difference! During the next few weeks, you will have the opportunity to pack a shoebox (or more than one) with a variety of gifts that will be given to a child who is in a desperate situation.
This year, related to the pandemic, Samaritan’s Purse is encouraging people to build a box online at https://build-a-shoebox.samaritanspurse.org/view/83f23096-5328-482f-b47b-a82bf1d73ebc Just go to the link and follow the directions. We as a church can track our progress at this same link toward our goal of 125 shoeboxes total.
If you choose to buy your own gifts and fill a shoebox, please return it to VCL by Sunday morning, November 22. You can pay for the shipping ($9.00 suggested) online and follow your box at https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/ to see the country of its destination.
Empty shoeboxes and labels are available in the foyer (look for the balloon) either Sunday mornings or during weekly church office hours until Sunday, November 22. Please remember, due to custom regulations, toothpaste and candy are no longer permitted in shoeboxes. Questions or concerns, contact Pamela Hedges @ 224-365-9405 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We are asking that families take a picture as they pack their shoebox and send to it to email@example.com.
VCL Women! Our Thursday group will begin our book study on January 7, 2021! We’re excited to study the video/book series entitled “Breathe” by Priscilla Shirer! The book can be purchased for $12 (exact change please!) on November 19, December 3, or in the church office during the week. If paying by check please make payable to Village Church of Lincolnshire. On January 7 we will go back to our normal schedule of 9:30-11:00. In the meantime though, we’re continuing to meet 9:30-10:30 each week with fellowship, a devotional, and prayer together.
Also, Jan Carlson is hosting a prayer circle to pray specifically for Revival. For more info or to let Jan know you’re interested in praying with her, please email her at firstname.lastname@example.org The prayer circle takes place after our Thursday morning gathering.
As always, Covid guidelines are continuing to be followed with masks and social distancing.
Is God Calling You To Lead a Growth Group? Now as much as ever, we need community. Growth groups at VCL are groups where we can get together to pray, read God’s word, and fellowship together as brothers and sisters in God’s family. They are a vitally important part of church life, as well as our individual discipleship. We find ourselves in need of new growth group leaders, people want to learn from experienced leaders what it would look like to be part of forming new groups. You don’t need to have any prior knowledge or experience, all you have to have is the desire to help people grow spiritually in community. If you’d be interested in helping out or finding out more, please contact Pastor Casey at email@example.com.
Would you like to use the Great Room? The Great Room is now available for groups of 25 or less to use throughout the week. To keep things safe and sanitary, you’ll need to reserve a time and follow a set of guidelines we’ve developed. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Not-So Daily Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office
Offering: During this time, it’s more important than ever that we continue to embody our trust in the Lord’s provision through faithful, sacrificial giving. Please visit http://evcl.org/give/ and make your offering as an intentional act of faith. Although online giving is preferred during this time, you may also write and mail your checks to Village Church of Lincolnshire, 201 Riverwoods Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045
