Guide for Home Worship: 11/22/20
We Give Thanks
Today, we’re thanking God for His marvelous works, especially the way in which He binds us together as a family—even when family members squabble. One of our elders, Bryan Just, will be preaching a sermon from Acts 15 about how God works in and through conflicts in the family.
The Parables Sunday School Goes Online starting 11/22 – The parables Sunday School will be meeting only online at 9:30-10:15 AM. You can participate by joining Casey via zoom (click here to get the link), or watch the conversation on YouTube by clicking here. Join Pastor Casey from his home for this engaging conversation about the most fascinating (and often hard to understand) sayings of Jesus.
Operation Christmas Child: YOU can make a difference! This year, related to the pandemic, Samaritan’s Purse is encouraging people to build a box online at https://build-a-shoebox.samaritanspurse.org/view/83f23096-5328-482f-b47b-a82bf1d73ebc Just go to the link and follow the directions. We as a church can track our progress at this same link toward our goal of 125 shoeboxes total.
If you choose to buy your own gifts and fill a shoebox, please return it to VCL by Sunday, November 22 at noon. You can pay for the shipping ($9.00 suggested) online and follow your box at https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/ to see the country of its destination. Questions or concerns, contact Pamela Hedges @ 224-365-9405 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are asking that families take a picture as they pack their shoebox and send to it to email@example.com.
Annual Congregational Meeting: On December 6 at 6 PM, we’ll be gathering for our annual meeting. This year is especially important. In addition to voting on our budget for next year and other regular items, we’ll be reviewing the Transition Team’s final report, voting on by-law changes, and electing a pastoral search committee. We’re asking that all members make it a point to attend. As the date approaches, we’ll determine whether to conduct this meeting in person or online. If we go with the former, we’ll follow the same protocols as we do on Sunday morning and will provide ways for those who can’t attend in person to still participate (offer feedback, ask questions, and vote) online.
At the meeting, we will be voting to approve the following Officers:
Elder—Jim Stamoolis (1st 3-year term); Stamatis Taktikos (2nd 3-year term).
Finance Committee—Chair – Michael Wall, Treasurer – Dan Kissinger, Financial Secretary – Jan Nelson.
Pastoral Search Committee: Bob Betts, Rich Soderberg, Henry Van Dixhorn, Nels Flatebo, Kaye Lyons, Kim Cordes, Peter Marshall, Ann Forman, Mary Jo Rust, Chrissi Wall.
Upcoming By-Law Changes: We’ll be voting on several changes to the by-laws at our annual meeting. If you haven’t yet had a chance, please review the changes and reach out to Bryan Just at firstname.lastname@example.org with any comments or questions. You can find the proposed changes along with a letter of explanation in an email Pastor Kenny sent out on 11/2. If you can’t find that, email email@example.com and we’ll be happy to send you another copy.
VCL Women! Our Thursday group will begin our book study on January 7, 2021! We’re excited to study the video/book series entitled “Breathe” by Priscilla Shirer! The book can be purchased for $12 (exact change please!) on December 3, or in the church office during the week. If paying by check please make payable to Village Church of Lincolnshire. On January 7 we will go back to our normal schedule of 9:30-11:00. In the meantime though, we’re continuing to meet 9:30-10:30 each week with fellowship, a devotional, and prayer together. As always, Covid guidelines are continuing to be followed with masks and social distancing.
Is God Calling You To Lead a Growth Group? Now as much as ever, we need community. Growth groups at VCL are groups where we can get together to pray, read God’s word, and fellowship together as brothers and sisters in God’s family. They are a vitally important part of church life, as well as our individual discipleship. We find ourselves in need of new growth group leaders, people want to learn from experienced leaders what it would look like to be part of forming new groups. You don’t need to have any prior knowledge or experience, all you have to have is the desire to help people grow spiritually in community. If you’d be interested in helping out or finding out more, please contact Pastor Casey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Would you like to use the Great Room? The Great Room is now available for groups of 25 or less to use throughout the week. To keep things safe and sanitary, you’ll need to reserve a time and follow a set of guidelines we’ve developed. For more information, please email email@example.com.
Not-So Daily Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office
Offering: During this time, it’s more important than ever that we continue to embody our trust in the Lord’s provision through faithful, sacrificial giving. Please visit http://evcl.org/give/ and make your offering as an intentional act of faith. Although online giving is preferred during this time, you may also write and mail your checks to Village Church of Lincolnshire, 201 Riverwoods Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045
