Guide for Home Worship: 10/30/22
Setting Our Path – Through Renewed Love
This Sunday, we’ll be lifting the Lord through song, prayer, and the Word. Pastor Jim Renke will be sharing the Word, encouraging us to understand and grasp the love of Jesus again. This is a vital step in setting a path from the disorientation of trials, tests, conflict and temptation.
Blessed Endurance: the message of the Book of Revelation —Fall series in Hour in the Word – The book of Revelation has a reputation. For some of us, it confuses, bewilders, and scares us. For others, we think it is full of hidden codes, secret allusions, and geopolitical predictions. Yet this book was written, not to confuse or even give exact predictions of the future, but to fill God’s people with hope, a hope so strong that it gives us the power to endure anything that comes our way. Join Pastor Casey this Fall for a summary of the content and message of the book of Revelation, not from the perspective of charting an exact path for the future, but as a reset for our understanding of reality, of what our lives are all about, and of how we envision the “end” of this present world. Starts 10/9 at 9am in the Great Room!
Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (11/1) at 7:00 pm, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to email@example.com. Please note: we will now meet via Zoom on the first and third Tuesday of the month.
Samaritan’s Purse—During the next few weeks, you will have the opportunity to pack a shoebox (or more than one) with a variety of gifts that will be given to a child who is in a desperate situation. We are collecting shoeboxes at VCL again this year. Simply bring your filled box to VCL by Sunday, November 13. Click here to build a box online or to have a box built for you!! There is also a link to follow your box online. Empty shoeboxes are available at VCL. Please remember, due to customs regulations, toothpaste and candy are no longer permitted in shoeboxes. Questions or concerns, contact Connie Kochkin at firstname.lastname@example.org
Village Voices Christmas Choir: The time has come again to gather in worship and song! Whether seasoned or newly interested, if you’d like to join this year’s Christmas choir, please do! The sign-up sheet is in the foyer and music packets will be available next week. Our first rehearsal will be 11/13 from 5:00-6:30pm in the sanctuary. Choir Sunday is 12/18. There will be four rehearsals in total: 11/13 and 11/20, 5-6:30pm, 12/4, 4-5:30pm, and one during the week of 12/11 (TBD). Please find or contact Kacie Swierk (email@example.com) if you have any questions.
Saturday Women’s Gathering: Ladies, you are invited to our Saturday Gathering, November 12th, 9:00- 11:00 in the Great Room. We will Explore, Examine and Experience BOUNDARIES as we consider what that means in our personal relationships. See you there! Contact Faith Beans or Karen Kissinger for more information.
VCL Ladies Bible Study are collecting new or gently used purses, shoes, and jewelry for Informed Choices New Life Resale and Donation Center in Grayslake and Wauconda. A collection box will be in the church foyer through the month of November. Thank you for your donations. All proceeds go to the ministry of Informed Choices Pregnancy Center.
Love INC: We are in need of more volunteers for the Love INC ministry in Lake County. Once a month a small group of VCL volunteers serve on the second Saturday morning each month with other churches to deliver and pick up beds, furniture and household supplies to residents who are in need. We have been involved in this ministry for 15 years with 13-15 other Lake County churches. Our optimum team would consist of 5-10 volunteers – currently we have 2-3. We deliver beds, Bibles, prayer and encouragement to our neighbors. Contact Carl Johnson to give it a try!
You can still join a growth group! While we just had our growth group launch (an easy opportunity to join a growth group), if you are still interested in joining a group, you can reach out to Pastor Casey any time of the year. Growth groups are a vital part of church life at VCL!
Thursday Morning Bible Study at 9:30 a.m. Please join us for a study of 1 & 2 Peter. The relevance of these books to today’s social and religious climate makes them a particularly interesting study. The guide book, 1-2 Peter and Jude by Jonathan K. Dodson, is available for $7.00. If you have any questions feel free to contact Carol Marshall, firstname.lastname@example.org or 847-274-9900
Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you (and we have openings on our schedule.) Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake (possibly celebrating a special birthday?) homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To schedule a Sunday and find out more info, please email email@example.com.
