Guide for Home Worship: 1/31/21
A Higher Power
This Sunday, we’ll be praising the powerful God whose word of grace and truth can never be silenced. Pastor Kenny will be preaching a sermon from Acts 16:16-25 about what happens when the liberating message of the Gospel collides with the interests of the powerful.
Hour in the Word This Sunday: Why You Need the Spiritual Disciplines Have you ever wondered what difference God’s presence actually makes in your daily life? Or why it doesn’t seem like you are ever actually growing in Christlikeness? Join Pastor Casey for the next eight weeks at 9:30 in the Great Room and online as he explores the basics of spiritual life and formation, and invites you to see yourself as a worshipper and all of your life as worship. You can find the link for the livestream and guide for lesson four here.
Practice Prayer Next Sunday at First, Prayer: Join Pastor Casey and your brothers and sisters either in-person or online (on YouTube) for a special time of prayer next Sunday (2/7) during Hour in the Word (9:30-10:15). We’ll be working together to practice prayer that engages us to recognize God’s presence, worship and adore him, and give our cares and needs to him in trust.
Speaking of Prayer… If you would like for people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
Directory Update: We are hoping to print an updated VCL Pictorial Directory soon. If you are new to VCL and would like to be included in the directory please send your contact information as well as a photo to the church office (email@example.com). If you have been included in the previous directory and need to update information or photo please send updates to the church office. We would appreciate all additions/changes be forwarded by February 14.
Missions Committee: As mentioned in the Transition Team’s report, the majority of VCL members want to see their church more involved in local outreach and ministry. The Missions Committee is going to work on that this year. The first step will be praying for ideas on what we could consider doing. Please pray and submit ideas God brings to mind for local outreach and ministry opportunities and send suggestions to Ed Manzo. Also, if you are interested in joining the Missions Committee, please contact him. Thank you.
Women’s Thursday Bible Study! Our Thursday group continues in the study of the video/book series entitled Breathe by Priscilla Shirer. We will begin our time together at 9:30 a.m. And, as always, we will continue to observe COVID guidelines.
Where are my 2021 offering envelopes? Well, we have decided since probably a lot of your 2020 envelopes were left unused due to our not meeting together, that you could use them up and just cross off 2020 and put 2021 on them and we’ll save on some printing charges in 2021. If you are out of envelopes, please put your envelope number on the memo line of your check – that really does speed up the counting process! If you don’t remember your number you can call Karen in the church office and she can get that for you.
Would you like to use the Great Room? The Great Room is now available for groups of 25 or less to use throughout the week. To keep things safe and sanitary, you’ll need to reserve a time and follow a set of guidelines we’ve developed. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Not-So Daily Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office
Giving & Financial Update
During this time, it’s more important than ever that we continue to embody our trust in the Lord’s provision through faithful, sacrificial giving. Please visit http://evcl.org/give/ and make your offering as an intentional act of faith.
Although online giving is preferred during this time, you may also write and mail your checks to Village Church of Lincolnshire, 201 Riverwoods Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045
