Guide for Home Worship: 9/6/20
Come to the Table
This morning, we’re praising God for the saving grace that brings people together from every conceivable background. Pastor Kenny will preach a sermon on Acts 10 and, at the end of the service, we’ll celebrate the Lord’s Supper together in our church.
Our new Sunday School series, “The Story of God and Us: The Whole Bible in Eight Weeks,” begins this Sunday morning from 9:15-10:00. There will be an in-person option (in the Great Room), as well as a live-streamed option on YouTube and a Zoom meeting. Those who attend the zoom meeting will have the opportunity to interact with the lesson, while we will not be responding in real-time to those who comment on YouTube. If you’d like to participate in the Zoom meeting, you can find the zoom invitation by clicking here. At that same link, you can find a synopsis of the “first chapter” of the Bible story, as well as links to the study guide and the YouTube live stream. If you have any questions, please reach out to Pastor Casey at email@example.com.
Ladies Thursday Bible Study: Attention all VCL ladies! We’ll be meeting together starting this Thursday, September 10, 9:30-10:30 a.m., in the Great Room. We want to have a comfortable and safe environment for all so we ask that you come wearing your face mask and we’ll sit maintaining a safe 6 feet apart from each other. Bring your own beverage if you’d like. We’ll have a devotion, share prayer requests, and pray together. We hope to see you there! Newcomers are welcome! For more information contact Karen Flatebo or Barb Vietmeier.
Help for Beirut: On August 4th, a massive explosion rocked the city of Beirut, causing at least 180 deaths, 6,000 injuries, and over $10 billion (US) in property damage. 300,000 people are estimated to be without homes as a result of the blast. Kathy Bhatia, a former member of VCL and one of our missionary partners with the organization She is Safe, has asked for our prayers and financial support for the people of Lebanon. The Elders and Missions Committee have answered her request by unanimously agreeing to send $4,000 for aid ($2,000 each from the Missions and Mercy funds). Please continue to pray for Beirut and for Kathy as she seeks to minister to this city and country she loves so dearly.
Would you like to use the Great Room? The Great Room is now available for groups of 25 or less to use throughout the week. To keep things safe and sanitary, you’ll need to reserve a time and follow a set of guidelines we’ve developed. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Not-So Daily Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office
Offering: During this time, it’s more important than ever that we continue to embody our trust in the Lord’s provision through faithful, sacrificial giving. Please visit http://evcl.org/give/ and make your offering as an intentional act of faith. Although online giving is preferred during this time, you may also write and mail your checks to Village Church of Lincolnshire, 201 Riverwoods Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045
New Member Applicants: Peter and Carol Marshall have applied for membership at Village Church. Their testimonies are printed here. Please take the time to read these wonderful stories of grace as this is an important step in their application process.
Peter: I do not remember a time when I didn’t believe in Jesus; Lutheran parochial school (thru 2nd grade then moved), Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, church, confirmation class, youth group, Jesus Rallies, mission trips, etc. During my 8th grade confirmation class had a 1-on-1 meeting with Associate Pastor and examined/analyzed various aspects of the faith (essentially EFCA Tenants 1-5 & 10) and expressed my belief to these and in conversation and in prayer my desire and commitment to live my life with Jesus as both Savior and Lord.
Carol: One of the most precious of graces in my life is that I do not remember a time when I did not love Jesus. I grew up in a family who faithfully attended church and was actively involved in ministry.
I started my faith journey in the Lutheran church and received solid roots through Sunday School and catechization. My high school years were blessed by the influence of the Jesus Movement (a good thing from the 1970s!!) and a strong youth leader and group. My husband Peter and I met in high school and married in college. A precious gift has been sharing our faith walk and raising 3 kids in the church.
I have treasured God’s grace in ministry from singing to teaching to attending seminary at TEDS. My desire is to love and serve God with my whole heart.
