Guide for Home Worship: 8/28/22
Community of Hope
This Sunday, we are looking forward to celebrating the hope of our Lord in song, prayer and the Word. Pastor Jim Renke will be sharing a message from 1 Thessalonians 5:12-15 that reminds us of the unique community true hope produces. We pray you are encouraged to reach out to others and offer them your love and kindness because of Christ and because He’s coming back.
New Hour in the Word Class: How to Study the Bible – If you’ve ever wondered why some people love Bible study while others can’t get connected, one big reason is that they’ve never been taught the basics of Bible study. Once we come to terms with what the Bible is (God’s Word in human language and history) and how we are to read it, the Bible comes alive. Join us at 9am in the Great room.
New Curriculum in Catechism Connection: The Village Church Catechism. After a year of preparation, Pastor Casey and the Catechism Connection team have begun their new curriculum entitled The Village Church Catechism. This curriculum is specifically focused on teaching the basics of the Christian faith to the children of VCL. Each family will receive a copy and are encouraged to follow along at home.
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (8/30) at 7:00 pm, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Need Leaders in Children’s Ministry – We’ve found ourselves at a low ebb in terms of children’s volunteers and leaders in various ministries. Pastor Casey is looking in particular for someone to teach Catechism connection every other week during the 9 o’clock hour. If you are interested in helping or just want to learn more, reach out to Pastor Casey either on Sunday or at email@example.com.
Please mark your calendar: On Friday evening, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. we will have An Evening of Music with violinist Masha Lakisova in concert accompanied by pianist Lyudmila Lakisova. Dessert will be served following the concert. You may want to plan to bring friends to this event.
All Women of VCL please mark your calendars for Saturday September 10, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Women’s Connections will be hosting a Brunch to kickoff our ministry year. There will be food and fellowship and a time to catch the vision for our upcoming events. If you have any questions feel free to contact Carol Marshall 847-274-9900, firstname.lastname@example.org .
Thursday Morning Bible Study: 9:30 – 11 a.m. Teachers: Carol Marshall, Judy DeBaets. This year we will be studying 1 & 2 Peter. The relevance of these books to today’s social and religious climate makes them a particularly interesting study. We’ll be using the study guide 1-2 Peter and Jude by Jonathan K. Dodson. This class does have homework but you will benefit from the weekly sessions even if you have not been able to prepare ahead. In addition to our study we have a monthly Concert of Prayer led by Jan Carlson. Part of our class time is dedicated to this on the third Thursday of the month from 10:20-11:00. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us! Questions? Contact Carol Marshall, email@example.com or 847-274-9900.
The Nominating Committee invites suggestions from the congregation for positions on the Finance Committee and for Elders. The Financial Secretary and Treasurer are one year terms. Our By-Laws indicate that the committee solicit names for all elected positions. The Elder positions are three year terms. Candidates for all elected positions must be active members of Village Church of Lincolnshire. Contact Nels Flatebo, (firstname.lastname@example.org, 847.414.9730) Chair of the Nominating Committee with your suggestions.
Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you (and we have openings on our schedule.) Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake (possibly celebrating a special birthday?) homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To schedule a Sunday and find out more info, please email email@example.com.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at email@example.com to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
