Guide for Home Worship: 8/1/21
In His Light, We See Light
The God of Light has saved us and brought us into His radiant kingdom. This Sunday, we’ll bask in His light through praise and worship. Then, Pastor Kenny will preach a sermon on Acts 25:23-26:32 about how we’ve been commissioned to carry the light of God’s love off into every corner of our darkened world.
First, Prayer: Prayer together is a vital part of what it means to be a church. Come at 9:00am to pray during First, Prayer on August 1. Our focus for this time will be prayer for the work of sharing Jesus with the world, as well as for our loved ones, enemies, and friends who don’t know the love of Jesus.
All Church Luncheon–Our missionaries, Todd and Jana Patterson will be at VCL on this Sunday, August 1st. There will be a light lunch served in the great room immediately after the service. Todd and Jana will be providing a short program.
Saturday, August 7 Jim and Kris Renke will be at VCL from 10-11:30 and 1:30-3:00 for two separate cottage meetings in Room 102. These smaller-group meetings are intended to provide a somewhat intimate time for folks to get to know them. If you’re interested in attending either one, please email email@example.com to indicate your interest so that we can plan accordingly.
Sunday, August 8 at 9 AM, we will host an interview and congregational Q&A with Jim and Kris Renke. This will not be live-streamed, but it will be recorded and posted on our YouTube channel for anyone who can’t attend in person. After the Q&A, we’ll have time for mingling before the service starts. We’ll have plenty of time to mix & mingle afterward, as well. The service will be live-streamed as usual, so those who can’t be present will still have an opportunity to hear Jim preach and see him interact with the congregation from up front.
Congregational Meeting—Immediately after our worship service on August 15, we will hold a congregational meeting to vote on whether to call Jim Renke to serve as VCL’s next Senior Pastor. Non-members are encouraged to attend, but only members may vote. The meeting will be live-streamed and absentee voting will be allowed. Stay tuned for more details about the meeting from the elders and the search committee.
Adopt A Youth Group! Want a chance to get to know the younger generation at VCL? Starting this August, the youth group will be starting a new program called adopt a youth group, where you can host a youth group meeting on a Wednesday night at your home. You won’t need to provide anything besides some space and your engagement with the students. Want to know more? Put “Adopt a Youth Group” in the friendship register and we’ll reach out!
Women of VCL – Please save the date for a Kickoff event for Women’s Connections on Saturday, September 11 from 9:30 to 11:30. We’ll be having brunch and fellowship as well as sharing new ministry ideas for all women of the church.
Nothing But the Blood… The Red Cross has approached our church about the possibility of hosting a blood drive for the community. The elders think this is a wonderful way to move toward becoming “the most beautiful home in our neighborhood,” but we need to gauge your interest before we can set a date. If you’d be interested in donating blood and/or volunteering to help out, please contact the church office. The drive will take place on a weekday, so please take that into consideration before signing up.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at email@example.com to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
Weekly Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office
