Guide for Home Worship: 7/10/22
Mentors of Hope
This Sunday, Pastor Jim will be sharing from 1 Thessalonians 2:6-16. It’s a message that reminds us how we can have the greatest impact in helping others find hope. We will discover this in the context of giving praise to God and confessing our need before him. We pray you will be drawn into his presence as we worship him together.
New 9am class: The God of All Beauty: Art, Creativity, and Faith – Two of our resident art-lovers, Carol Marshall and Pastor Casey, are teaming up for a short summer series covering a whole range of topics revolving around God’s immense beauty and invitation to join in that beauty. We’ll see how God is the source and definition of beauty, how the Bible talks about creativity (hint: it’s not what you might think!), and how God’s beautiful design can be expressed in every part of our lives. We’re also planning a field trip to the Art Institute of Chicago for all interested. Join us at 9am in the Great Room to learn more!
VCL Art Institute of Chicago Trip: July 16th: As part of our current Hour in the Word series The God of All Beauty: Art, Creativity, and Faith, a group from VCL are going on a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago on Saturday, July 16th. We will meet at 2 pm in the entrance hall of the Art Institute, and our group time will last until roughly 4pm. All are welcome. Participants are expected to find their own means of transportation and to purchase their own tickets. To get to the Art Institute, Pastor Casey often takes the Milwaukee North Metra train from Lake Forest station to Union station, from which you can either walk the ¾ mile or take a bus. Another option is to drive and park at Millennium Park South garage (which is very close to the Art Institute). If you plan on joining us, please RSVP to Pastor Casey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Membership: If God is making VCL your church home, we encourage you to pray about church membership. There will be a membership class on Saturday, July 9th from 10am-12pm. Please sign up on the Friendship Register if you would like to attend.
Sedgebrook Worship Service: We are hoping to have a worship service once a month at Sedgebrook. This service would be on Sunday afternoon. In order to have these services we need volunteers who will help with music (pianist and special music), scripture readers and other miscellaneous duties. To volunteer or for more information contact Pastor Jim or Gary Brown.
Please mark your calendar: On Friday evening, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. we will have An Evening of Music with violinist Masha Lakisova in concert accompanied by pianist Lyudmila Lakisova. Dessert will be served following the concert. You may want to plan to bring friends to this event.
Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you (and we have openings on our schedule.) Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake (possibly celebrating a special birthday?) homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To schedule a Sunday and find out more info, please email email@example.com.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at email@example.com to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
