Guide for Home Worship: 3/7/21
The Flowing Waters of God’s Grace
In today’s service, we’ll sing and speak of the God who washed us clean and welcomed us into His family. Pastor Kenny will be preaching a sermon from Acts 19:1-7 about the significance of baptism for all of Christian life.
A Song for the Journey – During the season of Lent, the texts for our weekly Call to Worship will come from a group of Psalms called the Songs of Ascent.
Traveling music was familiar to God’s Old Testament people. Annually making their way to Jerusalem for festivals and worship, the people of Israel would sing. Some of those songs, known as the Songs of Ascent, eventually became part of the Book of Psalms – Psalms 120 to 134.
These traveling songs reflected themes of the heart – the spiritual temperature of God’s people as they walked along the road “ascending” up to Jerusalem to worship at the temple.
The Psalms of Ascent include songs of preparation, songs recalling God’s grace, songs of lament, and songs of joy. Each song points to the lifelong journey of obedience to God.
First, Prayer: Join Pastor Kenny and your brothers and sisters for a special time of prayer next Sunday during Hour in the Word (9:30-10:15). We’ll be working together to practice prayer that engages us to recognize God’s presence, worship and adore him, and give our cares and needs to him in trust. Our class on the Spiritual Disciplines will continue next week (3/14).
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (3/9) at 7:30 PM, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to email@example.com.
Hearts for Kids 2021 – This year, we are focusing on deliberate, daily prayer for our children at VCL during our annual “Hearts for Kids” season. Every week we’ll be praying for a specific age group of children, first from the pulpit and then daily in our devotional time (download the devotional guide here). We encourage you to join us in this task, and we hope you’ll come away from these next six weeks more aware of the Lord’s heart for children and the specific children he has blessed us with at VCL.
Prayer… If you would like for people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to firstname.lastname@example.org. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
Easter Plants: VCL will be decorated once again with flowers celebrating Easter. If you wish to participate by purchasing a plant, download and fill out this form, which must be accompanied by your payment, and mail or bring to the church office.
We Could Use Your Help in the A/V Booth – If you’re at all interested in volunteering to help with sound, slides, or video, please let us know. You don’t need to be a technological wizard to serve your church in this way. We’ll be happy to give you all the training you need!
Missions Committee: As mentioned in the Transition Team’s report, the majority of VCL members want to see their church more involved in local outreach and ministry. The Missions Committee is going to work on that this year. The first step will be praying for ideas on what we could consider doing. Please pray and submit ideas God brings to mind for local outreach and ministry opportunities and send suggestions to Ed Manzo. Also, if you are interested in joining the Missions Committee, please contact him. Thank you.
Women’s Thursday Bible Study! Our Thursday group continues in the study of the video/book series entitled Breathe by Priscilla Shirer. We will begin our time together at 9:30 a.m. And, as always, we will continue to observe COVID guidelines.
Where are my 2021 offering envelopes? Well, we have decided since probably a lot of your 2020 envelopes were left unused due to our not meeting together, that you could use them up and just cross off 2020 and put 2021 on them and we’ll save on some printing charges in 2021. If you are out of envelopes, please put your envelope number on the memo line of your check – that really does speed up the counting process! If you don’t remember your number you can call Karen in the church office and she can get that for you.
Would you like to use the Great Room? The Great Room is now available for groups of 25 or less to use throughout the week. To keep things safe and sanitary, you’ll need to reserve a time and follow a set of guidelines we’ve developed. For more information, please email email@example.com.
Not-So Daily Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office

During this time, it’s more important than ever that we continue to embody our trust in the Lord’s provision through faithful, sacrificial giving. Please visit http://evcl.org/give/ and make your offering as an intentional act of faith.
