Guide for Home Worship: 12/5/21
He’s Coming as the Mighty One
This Sunday, we are looking forward to the second Sunday of Advent. Advent is a time of anticipation. We anticipate the fulfillment of all our needs and desires being fulfilled in the coming and the coming again, of Jesus Christ. This week, we are reflecting on him coming as The Mighty God. In our world, might and power are often misused to coerce and control. God uses his might to free us. We’ll be celebrating that, especially as we come to the Table to celebrate his saving work. We hope you’ll join us at 10:30am. If you can’t make, we’d love to have you connect online.
Hour in the Word Series Continues—and you can listen online! Join Pastor Casey and Bryan Just as they continue their series called Holy sexuality: Living as Creatures in God’s World in the Great Room at 9am. This engaging class focuses in on how God desires us to live in light of his design for every part of our lives, especially sexuality. This is a great class if you want to learn more about the Bible’s vision for sex, gender, procreation, and our bodies in contrast to current cultural confusion. And, if you miss Sunday mornings, you can tune in at the Hour in the Word Podcast (https://hourinthewordvcl.podbean.com), which you can find on Spotify, Google Podcasts, and iHeartRadio.
The Abundant Life class, to which all are welcome, will be looking at hard sayings and difficult passages in the Bible. We look at explanations offered by Biblical scholars (who often differ in their interpretation) and try to understand what the Bible is actually saying.

Thank you to all who participated in Operation Christmas Child by packing a shoebox and/or praying for the children around the world who will receive them. This year we collected 128 gift-filled shoeboxes! Your box is now enroute to a processing center from where it will be shipped to the receiving country and delivered to the local church. From there, your shoebox will finally be placed in the hands of a child! Every shoebox is a Gospel opportunity. Thank you!
The Saturday Women’s Gathering in December will be a potluck brunch on December 11th at 9 am. We will be celebrating a year of community and fellowship, and a bright new year of building Women’s Connections in Christ!
