Guide for Home Worship: 12/19/21
Preparing Our Hearts for His Coming
We are finishing up our Advent series today in reflecting on our response to Christ’s coming. We’ve seen him as The Righteous One. We’ve heard about him being The Mighty One. Last week we reflected on Him being The Merciful One. But what do we do with all that? How do we ready ourselves for his coming? We’ll be hearing from Luke 3:7-18 and John the Baptist. He readied the people for Christ’s unveiling by calling them to true repentance. Repentance makes the coming of Christ a joy! We hope to see you this Sunday. But if you’re not able to be with us in person, please join us online at 10:30am.
Christmas Schedule—Our traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 24. We will not have any First Hour activities at 9:00 a.m. on December 26 and January 2. (We will have our 10:30 a.m. service on December 26 and January 2.)
Hour in the Word Series Continues—and you can listen online! Join Pastor Casey and Bryan Just as they continue their series called Holy sexuality: Living as Creatures in God’s World in the Great Room at 9am. This engaging class focuses in on how God desires us to live in light of his design for every part of our lives, especially sexuality. This is a great class if you want to learn more about the Bible’s vision for sex, gender, procreation, and our bodies in contrast to current cultural confusion. And, if you miss Sunday mornings, you can tune in at the Hour in the Word Podcast (https://hourinthewordvcl.podbean.com), which you can find on Spotify, Google Podcasts, and iHeartRadio.
The Abundant Life class, to which all are welcome, will be looking at hard sayings and difficult passages in the Bible. We look at explanations offered by Biblical scholars (who often differ in their interpretation) and try to understand what the Bible is actually saying.
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (12/21) at 7:00 PM, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to email@example.com. Please note the time change for this bi-weekly prayer meeting.
Year-End Giving – For any gifts to be credited in 2021, they must be received by December 31, 2021 or postmarked no later than December 31, 2021. The last day that the church office will be open is Thursday, December 30 (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.). Of course, you can give your year-end gift on Sunday, December 26 at VCL. In addition, please notify Bob Betts when in 2021 the stock transfer has been requested so that your gift can be credited as a 2021 contribution.
Welcome Center: We hope you’ve noticed, we frequently have treats to go with our coffee at the welcome center on Sundays. You are invited to contribute at a time that works for you. Some ideas are: a purchased sheet cake, homemade cookies or bars, a bowl of cuties or apples or a salty snack. You may have another idea, I’d love to hear it! To find out more and/or choose a date that works for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to email@example.com. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
