Guide for Home Worship: 12/13/20
Joy Has Dawned Upon the World
On this third Sunday of Advent, we reflect on the joy we have in the Savior who came not only to die for us but to live for us, as well. Pastor Kenny will be preaching a sermon from Phil 2:5-11 that focuses on the obedience of Christ—how it brings us life and enables us to live wholeheartedly for God.
A Pearl of Great Price—Parables of the Kingdom Sunday School Class: Join pastor Casey as he leads this week’s lesson on the most fascinating sayings of Jesus: his parables . This week we dig into how Jesus uses parables to describe the “ethics of the kingdom,” and what it means that you and I get to be participants in God’s mission to restore the world. You can watch the livestream live at 9:15 on Sunday morning by clicking on this link.
Bi-Weekly Virtual Prayer Gathering: This Tuesday night (12/15) at 7:30 PM, we’ll be gathering on Zoom for our bi-weekly prayer meeting. Come join us for a meaningful time of prayer—all from the comfort of your own living room. Zoom details to follow via email. If you have a prayer request or an update, please send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Year-End Giving: If anyone is considering an end of the year stock gift, please obtain the standard form for this from Jan Nelson, our Financial Secretary. In addition, please notify Jan Nelson when the stock transfer has been requested so that she can credit your gift as a 2020 contribution.
VCL Women: Our Next Meeting – Our Thursday group will resume meeting once again on January 7, 2021. January 7th would be a great opportunity to come and find out what we’re all about! We hope you can join us. We’ll have a “special” on the 7th, with our first lesson on January 14. At that time we will begin our video/book series entitled Breathe by Priscilla Shirer. We will also be back to our normal schedule of 9:30-11:00. And, as always, we will be observing Covid guidelines. Between now and then you may purchase the book from the church office for $12 (exact change or check made payable to Village Church of Lincolnshire). As it appears we are still meeting virtually on Sundays, please call the church office before coming over to buy a book. And for more info contact Karen Flatebo 847.962.6784 or email@example.com. We hope to see you January 7! In the meantime, have a blessed Christmas and New Year!
Is God Calling You To Lead a Growth Group? Now as much as ever, we need community. Growth groups at VCL are groups where we can get together to pray, read God’s word, and fellowship together as brothers and sisters in God’s family. They are a vitally important part of church life, as well as our individual discipleship. We find ourselves in need of new growth group leaders, people want to learn from experienced leaders what it would look like to be part of forming new groups. You don’t need to have any prior knowledge or experience, all you have to have is the desire to help people grow spiritually in community. If you’d be interested in helping out or finding out more, please contact Pastor Casey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Would you like to use the Great Room? The Great Room is now available for groups of 25 or less to use throughout the week. To keep things safe and sanitary, you’ll need to reserve a time and follow a set of guidelines we’ve developed. For more information, please email email@example.com.
Not-So Daily Office: Pastors Kenny and Casey are on Facebook Live at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. During this time they will read a scripture passage and have a time of prayer. Copies of these times of worship will then be posted on our website: evcl.org/daily-office
Offering: During this time, it’s more important than ever that we continue to embody our trust in the Lord’s provision through faithful, sacrificial giving. Please visit http://evcl.org/give/ and make your offering as an intentional act of faith. Although online giving is preferred during this time, you may also write and mail your checks to Village Church of Lincolnshire, 201 Riverwoods Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045
