Guide for Home Worship: 10/3/21
Installation Service for Pastor Jim Renke
The Good Shepherd is faithful to send under-shepherds to love, feed, and care for His flock. Today, we celebrate God’s faithfulness as we install Jim Renke as our church’s new Senior Pastor. We’ll sing, pray, hear from Scripture, commission Jim, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Our outgoing interim pastor, Kenny, will preach a sermon from John 21:15-19 titled, “Passing the Crook.”
New Series in Hour in the Word—Holy Sexuality – Is there such a thing as “biblical sexuality”? What does the Bible say about this mysterious, powerful, and foundational aspect of human life? How can we capture God’s vision for sexual wholeness and holiness in a world like ours? Join Pastor Casey and Bryan Just as they tackle these questions and more in our new series during Hour in the Word, entitled Holy Sexuality: Living As Creatures in God’s World. The series will begin on October 3rd at 9am. This is a great opportunity for you to bring your youth to participate in the discussion.
All Church “Welcome Pastor Jim and Kris Renke” Salad Luncheon — Sunday, October 3, immediately after the service. All food is provided. Whether you are a newcomer to VCL, a new or returning Trinity student or a regular attender, we hope you will plan to attend. This is a great time to make the Renkes feel welcome as well as renew friendships and welcome someone new.
Calling all singers! We’re forming a Christmas choir again. Please contact Jane Niederbrach if you’d like to join us. More details to come.
Thursday Bible Study 9:30-11:30 a.m. Carol Marshall will lead on a study of Galatians using the guide Galatians: Living in Freedom and Love by Scot McKnight and Karen Lee-Thorp. If you have questions please email Carol at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Save the date for the Revive Our Hearts Conference on Saturday October 16, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. For information or to register contact Nancy Preston email@example.com
A New VCL Podcast – We want to offer the lessons from Hour in the Word for those of us who can’t make it at 9 am (though we encourage you to make it a priority!), so we’re launching the Hour in the Word Podcast on October 5th (to coincide with our Holy Sexuality series). You’ll be able to listen to the discussion on the way to work, while you work out, or anywhere you’ve got headphones. It will be available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more, as well as at this link: https://hourinthewordvcl.podbean.com . This will replace YouTube as the primary way we distribute the Hour in the Word Lessons.
Blood Drive – VCL is hosting a Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, October 12. The blood supply is critically short, and the need is constant. If you are willing to donate, please let Ed Manzo firstname.lastname@example.org know what times would work for you to donate. Appointments are every quarter hour from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. Collections will occur in the Great Room. Also, please let Ed know if you can help to plan or promote the event or assist on collection day. We are going to reach out to the local community and are aiming for 100 collections.
Prayer… If you would like people from our church to pray for you at any time, please send your request directly to email@example.com. Once approved by one of our pastors, your request will go straight out to our prayer list.
If you’re not receiving our emails – please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our email list. We would be happy for you to receive the information that is forwarded each week. Also any who would like to be added to the “prayer request list” may also contact the church office.
