Our own Dr. David Hesselgrave was honored with a Lifetime of Service Award on Sept. 21 at the North American Missions Leaders Conference in Rosemont. He was recognized as “one of the most influential missiologists in the past half century.” After seminary David and Gertrude served as missionaries in Japan for 12 years. Then he gave shape to the Missions Dept. at TEDS where so many of our VCL students have studied. He is the author of several books including the classic missions textbook Communicating Christ Cross-Culturally.

“I couldn’t think of a person more influential on my thinking in missiology than David Hesselgrave,” said Ed Stetzer, president of LifeWay Research.

What they didn’t mention that night is that David and Gertrude were instrumental in starting VCL almost 40 years ago and that in September they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary!
